I am just back from months out in the field, trying (in vain) to catch up with everything before I head out again. While I was away, BioGraphic featured this photo of a young humpback whale that I took in 2014:
This was, to the best of knowledge, the first verified sighting of a humpback whale in the waters just south of Sri Lanka.
It was a young male, alone, and inquisitive enough to approach and play for an extended period. Quite the special encounter.
