Tonga: First Encounters 2006

It’s been a hectic first week — travelling, getting settled, seeing friends, swimming with humpback whales. And it’s been a successful week.

We’ve spent lots of time in the water with our cetacean friends, been treated to breaches and other acrobatic displays, and happily, I’ve already recognised a number of whales from previous years.

As soon as I get a free moment, I’ll post some pictures. In the meantime, here’s a short video about our first encounters:

Note: For the English speakers who are subscribed to my blog via email, I’ll be posting every once in a while in Japanese. Please ignore the posts, or try the RSS function to keep in touch without the use of email. Thanks!

How to be Mean

When I was last in Bangkok, I spent a late night working with
some friends in the Waterworld Bangkok office. Khun Ladawan had tonnes of food on hand, so we stuffed ourselves as the evening went on, and serious work soon gave way to joking around, insulting one another, and much less serious, but equally important work.

Speaking in Tongues

One of the great things about travelling all over the world is that I’ve been able to pick up bits and pieces of different languages — often just enough to get myself into trouble, but not enough to dig myself out.
