I laughed real hard at your playground experience - I am godmother to a four-year old and have recently made myself decidedly queasy on a swing… on a more serious note - yes, I agree, too many bans are not necessarily productive. For my part, I am off to Selayar (south of Sulawesi) soon with friends and am hoping to see some “big stuff” pass by… Happy diving! Cath

Tony,
I can, at least partly, agree with your stated position of there possibly being too many bans but must strongly disagree with your inclusion of shark feeds (or any interaction) that changes the behavioural patterns of the animals involved. While one could argue that swimmimg with cetaceans changes their behaviour, it would not seem scientifically supported to equate that with feeding interactions which unquestionably changes basic behaviours. Fortunately, my chosen interactions are more often than not with nudibranchs…..Thanx for continuing to share your diving experiences.

Hi Tony,
your storymade me really laugh and I like your comparision. I’m not quite sure to include the shark feeding. I’ve never participated in feedings I just had to experience how morays or several fish react to divers when they expect to be fed. But I think there are different ways in feeding sharks.
Anyway as I told you earlier, I’ll be off the Selayar (with Cath, see above) on next Thursday.
Can’t wait to get there, we’ll let you know about how cool it was…happy diving
