Your comments are understandable. The Royalty issue which has been difficult to write about because of laws in Thailand is, I rather think a little exaggerated. White it is true PAD are worried about the monarchy so are most Thais. With the King in bad health they are scared about what is about to come.
They absolutely hate Thaksin Shinawatra and the corruption he is so strongly linked with.
The rural poor are used to corrupt politicians, when one comes along and does something good for them, they will support him.
That was Thaksin's master card, but his other actions do not demonstrate much love for Thailand and the Thai people.
(eg.He screwed farmers by signing a FTA with China now Thailand is flooded with cheaper but lower quality vegetables and out of work farmers in the north)
The protests did more damage than good. But they raised world perception of Thaksin and what he might stand for.
The protests were not about democracy - PAD has not thought that one out. It was about getting rid of Thaksin and his cronies.
They may have succeeded. People know in Thailand that if you vote PPP or Puea Thai, as it is now called, you are courting more trouble.
The ocuntry is still learning about democracy.
In that respect it is ahead of Singapore.
