There are several theories about COTS outbreaks:
(a) outbreaks are a natural phenomenon;
(b) nutrient run-offs from humans have fueled a population explosion; or
(c) humans have over-fished their natural enemies.

Hi Tony,

quite scaring what you tell us. I've been diving in Lembeh from April 21 to 30, but didin't come across them. The week before we were diving in Bunaken where we found quite a lot. From Babies to real huge ones.
If you take them out of the water it has to be very carefully as they spread out their eggs as a last reflex of survival.
In Egypt I saw dive spots after such serious outbreaks and it was not nice to watch.
