Hi Tony,

I enjoy the blog and photos, thanks.

I like to ask you about the fried lionfish, now which restaurant can I go to sample it? tho I know it's not regular fare.

Hope to hear from you.

Thanks.

Hi Tony,
I really enjoyed reading the above post-so well-written, unbiased and informative. In fact, I added a link to my blog (the post on 11/06), I hope you don't mind. But if you do, just let me know and I will take it off immediately, no hard feelings.
Thanks for sharing your journey-
Yuko

Hi Pheng, Yeah, the local dive guides all said the colder water brings in all the cool stuff. Going to try to make it back for some diving in the winter season. Brrr. Really want to try to catch some of the deepwater fish that come up to shallow depths, especially the anglerfish. The water temp drops pretty low, so a drysuit will definitely be a requirement!

Nice write-up and great photos. Did some dives as a new diver in Izu and also Okinawa when I was living in Japan in late 80's. Unfortunately, I lost my very first log book but I can remember the great diving there. Only thing was, the best time to dive - for good vis, good marine life not covered by all that sea grass - was winter, and even in Spring, the water was freezing!! Next time you need a diver and translator, I'll volunteer! Cheers!!

Thanks Thomas, hope to have a chance to get back there soon. Viz was pretty good on the west side when I visited, but I'm sure it's improving each day.

Nice story and pictures Tony! West Izu is not that crowded on weekends and now many sites are getting empty. Visibility is getting better so now is the best time!

Dear Tony,

Ah, I wish I had been there to photograph you when you were boots-in-the-sky!! Sorry I missed it!

We've all had those humbling moments, and if we were lucky nobody got them on film!

By the by, all morays, as far as I know, have those vomerine teeth in the roof of the mouth. Presumably for a solid grip when they wrap their bodies around in a knot and pull their heads through the loop, tearing a chunk out of the food.

Your photos were superb as always, and it is my honor to have shared some of your early diving adventures.

Warmest wishes,
Carl Roessler

Tony, what a fascinating read!!! We have always said that our lives are complicated enough without dry suits, and now we're convinced! But what wonderful creatures you will have access to because of them! - - - We're off to Peru tomorrow, so no time to chat. Three weeks there to see all the sights and visit with friends.- - - I LOVE your blog!!! Pat Watson
